So happy I don't have to import this from Europe!

I have been using the "Anthelios Fluide Extreme" for years after discovering it in Paris, either picking it up when I traveled to the EU or importing at ridiculous cost. Annoying and expensive, but it's simply the best sunscreen out there for daily use -- light, easy to use, lasts all day, plus cuts out the need for morning moisturizer.
What a delight to find that they have found a US importer! The US formula is slightly different, and I think a bit better, as it leave my skin more matte. However, now that it is winter, I find the formula dries me out a bit, so I will either import the slightly greasier EU formula or try one of the other Anthelios products available here.
One complaint -- no mexoryl in this one (their press releases are very specific about this.) I can't find out anything about what "cell-ox" actually is. But I do trust that there's some UVA protection. |
Best sunscreen ever so sensitive skin

| I got this product because I have rosacea and very sensitive skin, everytime I try skin products my face gets really irritated speccially when I use sunscreen, but that is the one thing I never left home without, I live in Fl and is always really hot and sunny, to leave the house without sunscreen is a big mistake for my skin, but I never found a good sunscreen that would suit my needs. When I first got it in the mail I remember thinking that is a little expensive considering how small it is, but is worth every penny, I will defenitly keep buying it time and time again, I use it after moisturizing in my face and the results are incredible, its not pasty or oily, is just perfect. |
Love this stuff!

I have vitiligo and have been using regular Anthelios for years. But I love the thinner formulation, especially for my face. It feels so light and non-greasy...while protecting my skin.
I also like the fact that it is a thin container and can be carried in my purse. It doesn't seem like there is alot in the container, but it doesn't take much and goes a long way. |

| This sunblock turned out to be a pleasant surprise - very light and not greasy at all. Amazon pricing was most competitive - get 2 bottles to avoid shipping charge. |
La Roche-Posay Anthelios

| This product is a great product if you are looking for a non-greasy sunscreen for your face. I had received a sample with another skin care purchase and decided to give it a try. I apply a very small amount (a little goes a long way) to my face, forehead, and neck just a few minutes before applying my regular make-up (which has no sunscreen protection). The product goes on very smoothe and dries quickly. Hours later my make-up still looks the same with no increase in oil/shine. I have not used this product in the water but only while riding motorcycles. I am very particular with my skin care products but I have been very pleased with this one. I have not experienced any additional skin irritation or sunburn to my face while using it. I have used and still use other La Roche-Posay skin care products as well. |
Lightweight

| Very lightweight on the face. I did not smell any type of chemicals at all. Did not burn at all on the beaches in Hawaii, and I burn easily. You may think the bottle is small, but a little goes a LONG way. Very fluidy, not thick like most sunscreens. Don't squirt a big glob out like you normally would (my son made that mistake!!) |
Best protection on the market!

| I'm a cosmetics junkie and journalist, so I do my homework before using a product. This line offers the key ingredient - Mexoryl - that is known to protect against harmful UVA rays. I used to order this through Canada. So glad it's available here. It's expensive, but worth it. A little bit goes a long way. I use it on my face, neck and back of my hands. I highly recommend this. |

| I have pale skin and love being outdoors. This sunscreen really protects against sun exposure - it's like you weren't in the sun in the first place! It's a must-have for those who love the sun but don't want to fell the sun's side effects on your skin! |

Ultra light sunscreen

| The name, ultra light sunscreen, lives up to it's claim in this product. I have searched high and low for a sunscreen that I can wear on my face that is not greasy. This is it. I can apply makeup shortly after putting this on my skin and my makeup does not run even in the hottest climate. Definitely give it a try. |
The trick is how you apply this sunscreen

| I do agree with other reviewers that this cream CAN look chalky. If you don't glop it on like traditional sunscreens, though, you'll find that it completely disappears. You'll also be saving $$ because you aren't using it up as quickly. I like it a lot because it leaves no indication of having ever been applied: no greasy feel and no shine. Just remember: apply as much as needed but as little as possible and you'll love this product. |

Works, but not in water.

I've used this sunscreen both paragliding and kitesurfing and have to give it mixed reviews. It applies nicely, melts right in, and feels smooth. However, it is not water or sweat proof in any way shape or form. And who needs SPF 60 for a daily sunscreen? It's great when I go paragliding and am not working up a sweat, I can stay out all day, but woe betide me if I have to hike up to launch. It's off my face and into my eyes immediately. So, it works, but in such a limited application that it's not worth the price.
And, @Dandelion, I pity the fool that thinks Shea butter and some oil provides sun protection. I've heard dumber things, but I can't recall when. |
Not proven effective against UV-A
|
| Review Date: June 15, 2010 |
| Reviewer: Nemo, Berkeley, CA |
This version of "Anthelios" does not contain mexoryl, which is the most effective UV-A blocking agent. Don't buy this version of "Anthelios;" instead, look at the other Anthelios products that DO contain mexoryl. If you want a non-mexoryl sunscreen (which I don't recommend, since they are less effective against UV-A), then go with the Neutrogena productd that contain "helioplex," The lower SPF "dry touch" versions are reasonably effective, feel better on the skin than any other sunscreen I've tried, and are way cheaper than this product.
Having said that, the mexoryl-based sunscreens are more effective than the Neutrogena, so are probably worth the extra cost. Bear in mind that UV-A causes cancer, but not sunburn. A sunscreen that protects against sunburn, is not an effective anti-cancer agent unless it also protects against UV-A. Most sunscreens that claim UV-A protection only provided it for half an hour or so. Mexoryl, on the other hand, lasts several hours. |
Super toxic ingredients
|
| Review Date: December 9, 2009 |
| Reviewer: Dandelion, santa monica |
I wish I could give this product minus stars! It contains octocrylene, which "can penetrate into the skin where it acts as a photosensitizer. This results in an increased production of free radicals under illumination. Free radicals are known to induce indirect DNA DAMAGE and an increased concentration of free radicals might have contributed to the increased incidence of malignant melanoma in sunscreen-users compared to non-users." This is from a peer-reviewed, science journal.
Another active ingredient, avobenzone, easily penetrates the skin and is a strong free radical generator as well. It also contains Oxybenzone and a whole host of other chemicals.
The whole purpose of sunscreen is to protect you from damage, not CAUSE it.
Your best bet for SAFE sunscreen: mix a little unrefined shea butter with either unrefined coconut oil, jojoba oil or avocado oil. That's all. Toxic chemicals not included.
If you MUST use a chemical-based sunscreen use only zinc oxide (it is photostable when exposed to radiation-aka sun rays.
FYI: you should also avoid sunscreens containing PABA, titanium dioxide (causes breakouts and a possible carcinogen) and any other benzene compounds. |
